Dec. 3, 2009 - HBAM Names 2009 Builder and Associate of the Year, Awards Local Association

JACKSON, Miss. – The Home Builders Association of Mississippi (HBAM) recently named two outstanding members as Builder Member and Associate Member of the Year, the top individual honors annually.  Announced at the Best in Mississippi Awards and President’s Dinner held November 18, the recipients are chosen for commitment to their local, state and national home builders association for the year 2009.  The winner is selected from entries submitted by local associations or other association members.

The 2009 HBAM Builder Member of the Year is Chris Massey of Southaven and HBA of North Mississippi.  A second generation Mississippi homebuilder, Chris is quick to tell you that he owes it all to his Dad.  Proudly part of the family business, Massey Home Builders in Southaven, means working with his family on a daily basis… something Chris considers a privilege.  And their motto backs that up… “A family building for families.”

A Certified Professional Builder, Chris is 2009 Vice President of the HBA of North MS, HBAM Regional Vice President, NAHB National Director and Chair of HBAM Government Affairs and Membership Committees.  A Certified Green Professional, Massey has the distinction of Desoto County’s first NAHB Green Home.  Chris has an impressive 100% attendance in 2009 for local and state meetings and total spike credits to date of 224, earning more than 70 in 2009.  And of course, was recently installed as 2010 Secretary-Treasurer of our state association.  His most important role, however, is that of husband and father.  Married to Cathy Herron for 18 years, they are the very proud parents of 14-year-old Katie, Dalton who is 12 and 10-year-old Morgan.

As Sales Manager at Atmos Energy Corporation, Marsha Barber of HBA Jackson, is a friend to Mississippi home builders on the national, state and local levels.  A member of the HBAJ Board of Directors, Marsha serves on the Associates, Parade of Homes and Building Green Works Committees.  On the HBAM Board of Directors, she is also a Spike Club and Gold Key Club member and on the HBAM Extravaganza Feedback Team.

The value of a committed sponsor cannot be understated and Marsha keeps that relationship with Atmos strong by faithfully supporting our annual state convention, Extravaganza, MMC Trade Show, HBAJ Parade of Homes and Golf Tournament---both as sponsor and advertiser.  Marsha puts her mouth where her money is… becoming an active participant, and willingly offering her time as an Associates Council Speaker, on the HBAJ Planning Group and as a Builder/Developer Gasmark Advertising Consultant.

A Hammond, Louisiana native, Marsha and her husband, Jimmy, are the parents of James and Catherine and proud to now have granddaughter Cameron and grandson Gabriel.
